Frequently Asked Questions
1. What kinds of commissioned work do you offer?
We specialise in large-scale, hand-painted murals, but also accommodate other custom artworks such as bespoke fine art pieces or custom-designed wearable art/clothing. Our aim is to create meaningful and original works tailored to your space, brand, or vision.
2. Where are you based and do you travel for commissions?
We are based in Pittsburgh, PA, and primarily service the greater Pittsburgh area. However, travel or shipping options can be arranged for out-of-town or out-of-state projects — please inquire for details and additional cost considerations.
3. How does the commissioning process work?
Here’s a general outline:
Initial contact: You share the space (dimensions, photos if available), your vision, preferred colours, usage scenario (residential, commercial, public).
Collaboration & proposal: We discuss ideas, tone, imagery, budget and timeline. A formal proposal is provided including scope, cost, schedule.
Design phase: Sketches, colour studies or mock-ups may be developed for approval.
Execution: The mural/artwork is painted/created on-site (or in studio if appropriate) until completion.
Finishing and review: Final touches, protective coatings if required, clean-up, and your review of the finished work.
Payment & handover: Final payment on completion, and you receive any agreed deliverables (photos, documentation, certificate etc).
4. What is the typical timeline from commission to completion?
Timeline depends on project size, complexity, location and scheduling. For example, a medium-sized mural might take a few weeks from start to finish (including design/approval phases). Large scale walls, especially in commercial/public settings, might take longer. We’ll provide a projected timeline in the proposal.
5. How much does a bespoke mural cost?
Costs vary significantly depending on size, complexity of imagery, surface condition, location (accessibility, height, scaffolding), travel or shipping requirements, and materials. A bespoke quotation is provided after discussing the space and desired outcome. Budget ranges will be given, but pricing is customised.
6. What surfaces and environments do you work on?
We work on drywall, plaster, brick, concrete, and other standard interior/exterior wall surfaces. Surface preparation (cleaning, priming) is often required. If exterior or exposed to weather, we’ll specify protective coatings and recommend maintenance. For wearable art or custom clothing commissions, fabrics and design complexities are discussed separately.
7. Can I choose the colours, imagery, and style?
Yes — each piece is a collaboration between you and Dante. You can share your vision: preferred colour palette, subject matter, symbolic imagery, atmosphere or mood. Dante then applies his signature style (vibrant colours, symbolic, emotionally-rich compositions) to reflect your vision while maintaining artistic authenticity.
8. Will I own the artwork outright? What about usage rights?
You will own the physical artwork (once completed and paid for) for the installed location. Usage/licensing rights (photography, reproduction, commercial use) are subject to agreement and authorisation. If you intend to use the image in advertising, merchandise, etc., let us know so usage rights can be included in the proposal.
9. What happens if the wall or space changes (e.g., repainting, removal)?
Since murals are integral to their context, any major changes (repainting, removal, structural changes) should be discussed as it may affect the artwork. If you relocate or modify the wall, please contact us—there may be options for documenting, transferring, or re-creating in a new location (additional cost applies).
10. How do you ensure quality and durability?
We use high-quality paints, appropriate primers and sealants (especially for exterior or high-traffic environments). Surface prep is emphasised to ensure adhesion and longevity. Maintenance recommendations will be provided. For interior pieces, normal wear applies; for exteriors, regular upkeep may be required.
11. How do we handle scheduling and disruptions?
We aim to coordinate with you to minimise disruption. For commercial or public spaces, we can work off-hours if needed. A schedule will be outlined in the proposal and milestones communicated. If delays or changes occur (weather, access, materials), we’ll update you proactively.
12. What payment terms do you use?
Typical terms: a deposit upon signing the agreement/starting design, an interim payment (for larger projects) and final payment upon completion/acceptance of the mural. The exact schedule will be included in the proposal. Payment methods and any refund/cancellation policy will also be clarified.
13. How do I get started?
Simply contact us via the “Commission a Mural” link on the Tourchez Art site. Provide your name, contact info, brief description of the project (location, dimensions, vision). We’ll respond to schedule a consultation and move the process forward.
14. Can you provide examples of past commissions?
Yes — please view our commissioned gallery and client testimonials on the website to see past murals and custom work. These showcase how we’ve transformed walls into expressive portals of emotion and perspective.
15. What if I need changes after completion?
Minor touch-ups may be available depending on project scope; larger modifications or repaints constitute a new project or additional fee. We recommend agreeing on the final design before the execution phase to minimise surprises.
